Lundazi District commemorated World AIDS Day under the theme โ€œOvercoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.โ€

Speaking on behalf of the District Commissioner, District Administrative Officer Mrs. Anslow Muchelemba praised the communityโ€™s resilience in the face of challenges such as pandemics, stigma, and economic hardships.

Mrs. Muchelemba emphasized that targeted interventions for adolescent girls, young women, men, and people with disabilities remain a top priority. She noted that ending AIDS is not only a health goal but also a human rights imperative one that demands unity, compassion, and a shared commitment to achieving an AIDS free Lundazi.

She further acknowledged the dedication of healthcare workers, volunteers, and partners whose tireless efforts continue to save lives.

She further a called for an end to stigma and discrimination, urging empathy and safe access to testing and treatment for all.

And Lundazi District Health Director, Dr. Simon Mwale, reported that 27,829 people (17,312 females and 10,517 males) were tested for HIV this year, with 472 individuals (310 females and 162 males) initiated on antiretroviral therapy. He highlighted that these figures represent lives protected and families strengthened through collective effort.

The event concluded with drama performances and a volleyball match by people living with disabilities, symbolizing inclusion, unity, and the communityโ€™s unwavering commitment to ending AIDS.
