The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has successfully held the District Delimitation Sitting for Lundazi District at Lundazi Day Secondary School Hall.
Speaking during the meeting, District Electoral Officer John A.K. Mwanza thanked stakeholders for attending and underscored the Commission’s commitment to inclusive participation, noting that stakeholders remain key partners in strengthening transparency, accountability and the credibility of elections.
Mr. Mwanza explained that the delimitation exercise is being conducted in all 116 districts to receive stakeholder submissions on the realignment and creation of constituencies in line with the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025. The constitutional reforms increased constituency-based seats in the National Assembly from 156 to 226, which means the Commission must create seventy additional constituencies to reflect population growth, demographic shifts, urbanization and emerging settlement patterns.
He urged stakeholders to engage transparently and respectfully, provide factual and data-driven submissions, and seek consensus during deliberations.
Mr. Mwanza also drew attention to the upcoming Inspection of the Provisional Register of Voters as another critical electoral activity, encouraging stakeholders to mobilize citizens to verify their details during the inspection period, which runs online from 22nd February to 8th March 2026, with physical inspection at 8,999 polling stations from 2nd March to 8th March 2026.
In a vote of thanks, Senior Chief Mwase expressed gratitude to the Electoral Commission of Zambia for recognizing the role of traditional leaders in the delimitation process and commended stakeholders for their cooperation and full participation in submitting proposals.
He said he is hopeful that the constituencies will be divided but called for unity in Lundazi, emphasizing that despite the delimitation of Lundazi bringing development closer, it will not mean much if people do not get along.
Submissions from the Lundazi District Delimitation Sitting will now be forwarded to the provincial level for further consolidation and review in accordance with the law.
