Lundazi district is one of the old districts in Zambia which was established in 1942 as a Rural Council then later established as a District Council in 1991. It has got a total population of around 154,908 with the male population estimated to be around 75,187 while females are around 79,721 as the larger proportion (Census of Population and Housing, 2022).

It is composed of ten (10) wards and one (1) Constituency with three (3) traditional Leaders; HRH Senior Chief Mwase, HRH Chief Mphamba, and HRH Chief Kapichila. The CBD and Lundazi township are specifically located in Chief Mphamba area.

There is one major cultural Tumbuka ceremony conducted yearly in the district known as Kulonga ceremony. Major languages spoken in the district include English (as official language), Nyanja, Tumbuka, Bemba, and Chewa.

The district is situated approximately 743 Km east of Lusaka and 184 Km from the Provincial Capital with a total area of 1,348 Km Sq. It is located on a fairly medium altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level and near Lake Malawi of Malawi. The topography is generally hilly with valleys dissected by streams and rivers. It shares boundaries with Chasefu District to the north, Lumezi District to the South-West, and the Republic of Malawi to the East and South. The main economic activities in the district include Agriculture commonly on small-scale, Trade, Small-scale mining and Tourism.
