In a remarkable journey toward a brighter future, Grace Manda, a 29-year-old resident of Chipasula village in Chief Mwase, has defied the odds by securing a typist position at the Mwinilunga Education Board Secretary’s office.

Grace’s inspiring story of rising from humble beginnings to achieving her dreams is closely tied to the support she received from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). After enrolling at Ukwimi Trades Institute in Petauke District to pursue an advanced certificate in Secretarial Management, Grace faced significant financial challenges that forced her to pause her education after her first year. Her parents informed her that they could no longer afford her tuition fees, leaving her feeling hopeless about continuing her studies.

However, her fortunes changed when she was approached by her councilor, John Nyirenda of Chimalilo Ward. He encouraged her to apply for assistance from the Lundazi Town Council through the CDF, specifically under the skills and secondary school bursary program. With limited knowledge about the funding, Grace relied on her councilor for guidance and successfully submitted her application through the Ward Development Committee.

To her surprise, Grace learned that her application had been successful. “I was amazed at the reality of CDF; it got even better when I realized that even meals were all paid for,” she said, reflecting on the support she received.

During her final year of study, Ukwimi Trades Institute required students to select a location for their three-month internship. Grace chose Lundazi Town Council, and her school promptly sent a request to the local authority, which responded with an acceptance letter within a month. Her internship was later extended, providing her with invaluable experience.

While interning at the council, Grace seized the opportunity to apply for a secretary position with the Ministry of Education through the post office. Despite her initial doubts about securing a government job, given the myths surrounding such positions, Grace persevered and ultimately landed the job.

Grace Manda’s story is a testament to the transformative power of community support and the impact of initiatives like the Constituency Development Fund. She serves as an inspiration to other youths in Lundazi, demonstrating that with determination and the right support, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve one’s dreams.
